Your Words Are Important In Your Life

Man mouth close-up shoutingIn the gospel of Luke 6:46-49 there is a parable of two men who built their house (one on the sand and the other on the rock) and immediately the storms came. Both men heard the word but one man’s house fell. The reason was because the foundation was not solid. He built on the sand. And in our lives to one degree or another we have learned that the foundation is the most important part of the building. In the case of believers that foundation is on the Rock. Who is the rock? Jesus Christ. In John 1:1 it says that Jesus is the Word of God. Jesus has to be our foundation. Lets see why it is so important to have the Word as our foundation. “But what saith it? The word is nigh thee, [even] in thy mouth, and in thy heart: that is, the word of faith, which we preach; That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation.” Romans 10:8-10 It is very important for God’s word to be in our hearts and in our mouths. In verse 10 it says: “and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation”. Salvation means: getting rid of anything bad, reedemption, freedom and protection from danger. Lets look again at verse 10 replacing the word salvation with one of its meanings. “and with the mouth confession is made unto protection from evil”. Therefore we reach the conclusion that our confession, our words can protect us from evil. “Whoso keepeth his mouth and his tongue keepeth his soul from troubles.” Proverbs 21:23 “A fool’s mouth [is] his destruction, and his lips [are] the snare of his soul.” Proverbs 18:7 “Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Proverbs 18:21 Many people paint pictures of failure with their words and as a result get exactly what they created. These pictures start with a thought. After a while they go down into your heart and from the heart come out of the mouth because out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks. Words paint pictures. If I tell you now to think of a blue car, that is what you’ll think of. If I tell you to think of a white car, the first picture of a blue car disappears and a picture of the white car comes to your mind. Our words paint pictures. Having this in mind we need to create good pictures in our mind and take away the bad ones. “Casting down imaginations, and every high thing that exalteth itself against the knowledge of God, and bringing into captivity every thought to the obedience of Christ;” 2 Corinthians 10:5 When the devil brings something to our mind that is not right, by speaking the word of God we create the right picture and so the wrong one disappears immediately. So with our own words we bring to our life, either the abundant life that the Lord has planned for us or destruction and death. “And these are they which are sown among thorns; such as hear the word,” Mark 4:18 “And the cares of this world, and the deceitfulness of riches, and the lusts of other things entering in, choke the word, and it becometh unfruitful. And these are they which are sown on good ground; such as hear the word, and receive [it] , and bring forth fruit, some thirtyfold, some sixty, and some an hundred.” Mark 4:19-20 When we hear this parable, we think of people who just heard the word for the first time and they either accept or reject it. Today I want us to look at this parable and put ourselves in the place of the sower. Every word that comes out of our mouth is a seed. So everyday we sow either God’s words or the devil’s. Out heart is the ground and whatever seed we sow in it, this is what will grow. If we speak words of faith, this is what will grow in our heart. Our heart will produce whatever has been sown in it. Either faith, or fear and doubt. For a farmer this is totally normal and he expects his field to produce whatever he sowed. He cannot sow wheat and expect to reap tomatoes. He will reap exactly what he sows. Even if he sowed the wrong kind of seed, for example sowed lentils instead of rice, lentils will grow. Every seed produces after its kind. “Say unto them, [As truly as] I live, saith the LORD, as ye have spoken in mine ears, so will I do to you:” Numbers 14:28 “I create the fruit of the lips; Peace, peace to [him that is] far off, and to [him that is] near, saith the LORD; and I will heal him.” Isaiah 57:19 “[There is] no speech nor language, [where] their voice is not heard.” Psalms 19:3 “Their line is gone out through all the earth, and their words to the end of the world. In them hath he set a tabernacle for the sun,” Psalms 19:4 So we are both accountable and responsible for every word that comes out of our mouth. It is for our own benefit to learn to speak right and pay attention to every word that comes out of our mouth. We need to remind ourselves that: “Death and life [are] in the power of the tongue: and they that love it shall eat the fruit thereof.” Proverbs 18:21 Written by Andry Christodoulou
