The Power Of Prayer

Young Man Praying

“But thou, when thou prayest, enter into thy closet, and when thou hast shut thy door, pray to thy Father which is in secret; and thy Father which seeth in secret shall reward thee openly.” (Matthew 6:6 [KJV]) Jesus Christ teaches us about the importance of being in fellowship with the Father during prayer time. The Father sees and accepts the prayer of the righteous and honors him by “rewrding him openly”. Jesus Christ would often spend time alone in prayer, expressing His love and faith to the Father. In Luke 6:12 it says that he would spend all night in prayer. After that, healing power came out of Him and He healed everyone. Jesus would continuously be filled with the Holy Spirit and He lived in the presence of God because He knew the Father and the Father knew Him. The Father acknowledged the Son by pouring His great strength on Him because the Word says the faith pleases God. “But without faith [it is] impossible to please [him] : for he that cometh to God must believe that he is, and [that] he is a rewarder of them that diligently seek him.” Hebrews 11:6 [KJV]) Faith is the foundation of our Christian life. God has made it clear that He wants to answer our prayers and that when we pray, what counts is the attitude of the heart. Our faith moves God. But in order to pray correctly I need to know the character of God through His Word. When we know who God is, we learn His will for our lives. It’s because I know Him that I can come to Him with the complete assurance that He will answer me. The Holy Spirit is our helper in prayer. He is the one who strengthens us and His strength is what will bring the manifestation of what we have prayed for. It’s the Holy Spirit who helps us pray the way God wants us to pray. The Lord Jesus says in John 4:23: “But the hour cometh, and now is, when the true worshippers shall worship the Father in spirit and in truth: for the Father seeketh such to worship him.” The Father desires the true worshipers. He asks for a people who will pray according to His will, guided by the Holy Spirit to reveal His strength in the earth. We have the mighty name of Jesus and we can pray and receive what the Lord Jesus won for us on the cross. God hears and He will answer. “Now unto him that is able to do exceeding abundantly above all that we ask or think, according to the power that worketh in us, Unto him [be] glory in the church by Christ Jesus throughout all ages, world without end. Amen.” (Eph 3:20-21 [KJV])
