Passion For JESUS
“I fell out of love with him, I don’t love him anymore…there’s nothing I can do about it, it just happened, the passion is gone!” People feel that they fall out of love as quickly as they fall in. Most people think that love and passion are things that “just happen” if you are “lucky”, and you don’t have any control over them. That’s a very common misconception and one of the most common reasons for marriages falling apart and Christians backsliding. Nothing could be farther from the truth however.
Thank God, the Bible teaches that love is a choice, not a feeling! Sadly, very often we see Christians loose their passion for Jesus and go back to the world. People who used to be thrilled about going to church, reading their Bible and spending time with the Lord start finding sin more exciting and lose interest for the things of the Lord! How in the world can that happen? I believe the Bible gives us an answer in Matthew 6:21 “For where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Notice: “where your treasure is, there will your heart be also.”
Pastor Jimmy Evans says: “I believe that is a key to lasting passion. The word treasure, in Greek “thesavros” is where you put your valuables (your time and energy). Wherever you invest your time and energy, is exactly where your heart, your passions and your desires will be!” Wow! This applies first to our relationship with the Lord but also to every other area of life. Feelings will follow your actions! Just like when two people fall in love, they spend all their free time together and all their money and energy on each other. They do all these wonderful actions for each other and so feelings and passion grow and grow. It’s the same with the things of God. If you do the right things you will have the right feelings. If you spend (invest) time with the Lord and invest your energy in the Word and in church you can be sure you will always be passionate for Jesus.
If you start neglecting these things however, you will start finding the world and sometimes even sin more exciting. That’s why the Bible commands us to “work out our salvation with fear and trembling…” (Philippians 2:12). Don’t let the devil tell you that neglecting your salvation isn’t a big deal. The Word tells us to watch out for the little foxes because they do the most damage. If you stop doing the right things, your passion will start dying and one day you’ll find out it’s gone! That’s a very, very dangerous place to be in. Jesus never accepts second place, He will either be Number One and Lord of EVERY area of your life, or He will be last.
The Word says in Rev 3:15-16 “I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spew thee out of my mouth.”
Simply put: “I wish you were hot or cold, if you are lukewarm, I will spew you out of my mouth”! Those are strong words! God is very serious about having people who love Him passionately with all their body, soul and strength. If you are in that lukewarm state I strongly suggest you repent and come back to your first, highest love. The way to get that passion back is to start doing the right things again. Even if you feel extremely tired to get up and go to church, pull yourself up by the ear and make him go.
If you start doing the right things and keep on doing them, even when your feelings are 100% negative, you will see that slowly but surely your passion and desire for the Lord will grow again! You will start being excited again about being in the presence of Almighty God and you will realize how disgusting sin is!
Jesus is 100% passionate about you…
Are you 100% passionate about Him?
